Have you received this error message in Windows Media Player:

The file wmp.dll has a version number of 10.0.0.3998 where 10.0.0.3997 was expected.

This is a fairly common error message that occurs but in a Windows 2003 Server environment it is a little bit harder to understand. First and foremost as the title of the system may suggest Windows 2003 Server is a server side software used in admin situations where support teams need external control to a users file and folders and computer screens!

Further Information on this error

Once you have received this error message you are asked to reinstall Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or higher, some reports suggest that this isn't the case as many who report this problem have got Service Pack 2 on their machines!

What can I do to solve this problem then.....

The first solution would be to:

Run Command Prompt, to get there go to start, click run and type:

cmd

Once in Command prompt simply type:

regsvr32 wmp.dll

This will then re register the wmp.dll file on your machine.

The second solution which many suggest works much better is to:

Reboot your system, then head into "run". To get there press Start then run and type in:

%systemroot%infunregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion

I hope these solutions prove of some use to you....
