What cause the Windows Media Player Error 8007001F

Music files that you download from online stores such as Napster or MSN Music have a special protection on them called DRM. This DRM comes in a licence, if Windows Media Player cannot find the licence either because it is deleted or corrupted it will produce the error.

Resolutions to the error

Restore your Backup Licences

If you have backed up licences in Windows Media Player, you should restore them. To do this simply:

  • Go to Tools
  • Then click 'Manage Licences'
  • Then click 'Restore Now'
  • Now try playing the file again.

    Other Ways to retrieve licences

    If you don't have any licences backed up, simply use the following methods to retrieve the licence

    Licence for a file on a CD

    Rip the CD back onto the computer using Windows Media Player

    Licence for a file from the internet

    Go back to the online store you downloaded the file from and redownload it, this will give you a new licence that can be used in Windows Media Player
