Windows Media Player 11 on Windows XP 64bit

Now I often get asked the question by many of my Windows XP friends.

"Can I get Windows Media Player 11 on Windows XP 64bit?"

For those of you who may not have a clue what Windows XP 64 bit is.Windows XP comes in 2 main editions which are:

  • Windows XP Home
  • Windows XP Professional
  • There are also versions such as XP Media Centre but this version is still built upon the same framework as Windows XP Pro. These operating systems run on what's called a 32 bit infrastructure. Now at risk of getting too techy for some folks I would recommend those who are interested go and check out the following resource.

The answer of course to this question is yes.

The thing is you must make sure you choose the correct download otherwise you will not be able to even start the setup!!!

So firstly we will want to head over to the Windows Media Download Centre

    Windows Media Player Download Centre

At the top of this page you will see three boxes saying:

  • Download
  • Version
  • Language
  • So click the download box first and select Windows Media Player 11

Then click Version and choose Player 11 (for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition)

Then choose language, it is important to note that currently the 64 bit edition is only availabe in English. Microsoft is working on other languages for release at sometime in the future.

When the webpage refreshes click the Download Button.

Now follow the below article link to setup Windows Media Player 11
