Windows Media Player Users, there is a way to work out which video codec Windows Media Player needs!

Sherlock the Codec Detective is a brilliant and innovative tool that has been created by Marc Liron Microsoft MVP.

This tool is just great because it tells you just what codecs are installed and running on your machine, such as audio and visual

This small 80kb program doesn't even have to install itself on your computer! It simply runs some test for the codecs and reports back in text format what it has found.

This can prove to be beneficial to those who may not know what a Codec even is, it can demystify all those concerns you may have

You can also export the results of the test into a technical support forum, which can then help users understand the problem much more clearly then ever before.

It currently only runs on Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional, I have been informed that some have found success loading up onto a Windows Vista machine.

There is no support included with this program, but Marc accepts any feedback and product improvement suggestions for future updates!
