Microsoft Silverlight
Microsoft Silverlight was announced at the National Association of Broadcasters conference back in April 2007. It was previously known as Windows® Presentation Foundation Everywhere(WPF/E) but was soon renamed to Silverlight. The details that came through initially were that Silverlight was cross platform and cross browser, which was a very exciting piece of news for content owners such as the movie companies.
Bob Muglia, senior vice president of the Server and Tools Business at Microsoft commented: "Content providers are seeking a way to deliver rich interactive applications using the tools and skills they already have. They want an end-to-end solution that enables them to rapidly reach multiple platforms with reasonable deployment costs." Have any big movie companies got involved yet??Early supporters of the Silverlight platform include: Akamai Technologies Inc., Brightcove Inc., Eyeblaster Inc., Limelight Networks, Major League Baseball and Netflix Inc. Brightcove are one of many companies to announce support for Microsoft Silverlight, Bob Mason chief technology officer at Brightcove said: "We’ve consistently heard from the media companies that they want the ability to easily implement key technologies for Internet video and rich broadband experiences." What makes Silverlight so unique HD content can easily be transferred to a mobile device It is cross platform/browser which means it works on any operating system/browser Content providers can reduce distribution costs by up to 46% using the Silverlight platform Silverlight integrates with Expressions Media Encoder and provides the ability to insert overlays to mediaIf you would like to read more about the technical side of Silverlight then click on the below link to find out more..
