How to Uninstall Windows Media Player 11

If you find that Windows Media Player 11 is causing your PC issues or you have found an alternative piece of media software does the job better, you may want to uninstall Windows Media Player 11 to free some disk space.

Instructions for uninstalling Windows Media Player 11

  • Go to Start and click "Control Panel"
  • OR

  • Go to the "My Computer" Icon on your desktop, double click it and then double click the "Control Panel" icon
  • Once you are in Control Panel go to "Add/Remove Programs" icon and double click Windows Media Player 11.

    Preparing to uninstall Windows Media Player

    When the window loads up and the programs are listed you will first want to head down to find a program called "Windows Media Player 11 Format Runtime", it is important you uninstall this first in order to uninstall Windows Media Player 11.

    Uninstalling Windows Media Player

    As soon as the "Windows Media Player 11 Format Runtime" has uninstalled you're all set to remove Windows Media Player 11, so now just go back to the "Add/Remove Programs" window and select the "Change and Remove" button and Windows Media Player 11 will be uninstalled.

    You will find that your Windows Media Player has been "rolled back", this basically means that Windows has taken the current version and stripped it down to the previous one you can only do this down to Windows Media Player 10.
