How to Recover Lost DRM Files in Windows Media Player

Have you ever wanted to know just How to Recover Lost DRM Files in Windows Media Player you may have lost a while ago, you aren't alone, many of my friends often tell me that the DRM file they downloaded from Napster or MSN Music just simply won't play any more, now this is either because the file is corrupt and missing or in the case of most, the DRM is missing.

Excerpt from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia:

Windows Media DRM is platform technology that makes it possible for:

Content owners to protect their digital media content by packaging files with robust encryption algorithms

Content owners and content service providers to experiment with new business models through the flexibility of the Windows Media DRM platform

Consumers to find, acquire, and play content virtually anywhere

So that gives you an idea of just how the DRM works, for more info be sure to check http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/drm/default.mspx This site will also give you more information about How to Recover Lost DRM Files in Windows Media Player

The only problem with DRM and the common argument many have had against it is that once you lose the DRM licence you sometimes can't retrieve it again which may be the case with your particular file, if that is the case you will need to re download the song or movie from the download service and fork out some more money, see how this unfairly works in the favour of the content providers.

I could only locate one service which allowed you to redownload content, however it is just an online music download store created by Tesco, the UK company who aim to be the only thing you see in the High Street :), what Tesco allow you to however is Redownload your content, you simply go to Tesco Downloads Redownload Page and either login with your account details or fill out the form on the page, you can only do this 3 times and then you have to purchase again, but if you are on other download sites you are stuck.

The best way to make sure you don't lose the licences is to back them up

To do this simply click 'Tools' then 'Licence Management' then click 'Backup Now'.

Then if for any reason you can't find the file's DRM go back to 'Tools' then click 'Licence Management' and then click 'Restore Now'
